A Guide to Visiting the Aymavilles Castle in Italy

Aymavilles Castle

Together we will discover the Aymavilles Castle, the eighth wonder of the Aosta Valley castles!

I will accompany you to discover this splendid castle, a historical residence that in parts dates back to the beginning of the 13th century, built as a defensive fortress but over time transformed into a sumptuous noble residence, surrounded by vineyards and characterised by a mixture of architectural styles. It is, once again, a manor house linked to the Challant family, a noble family of the area who owned the castle until the 19th century.

Once you reach the base of the castle, you will be struck by its elegance, underlined by the majestic four cylindrical towers dating back to the 15th century, but also by the magnificent 18th century façades, which conceal an unexpected treasure.

During our visit, I will take you on a discovery of the Aymavilles Castle collection and the 19th century collection of the Académie Saint-Anselme, a cultural and religious institution founded in the mid-19th century by the Prior of the Collegiate Church of Saints Peter and Bear, Jean-Antoine Gal.

We will walk together through a tour on four levels, starting with the first, dedicated to the historical owners of the residence, then passing through the hall and the collection of the Académie, to arrive in the attic at the original carpentry workshop of the 15th century.

Since 1970, the Castle has been the property of the Autonomous Region of Valle d'Aosta, which has carried out the restoration work, which will be completed with the inauguration on 21 December 2021.

The castle will be open to the public from 15 May 2022, another reason to be among the first to arrive!
