Aymavilles

Visiting Pont d'Aël Aqueduct-Bridge

The Pont-d'Aël (Pondel) aqueduct bridge is an architectural masterpiece that I highly recommend you visit!

Located in the commune of Aymavilles, the bridge dates back to the time of Augustus and is a true example of Roman architecture. It was built by a private individual to channel water from the Grand-Eyvia torrent to the quarries of Aymavilles.

The most striking thing about it at first sight is certainly its majesty. At an impressive 56 metres high and more than 50 metres long, it is impossible not to feel small in its presence! =)

If you're curious about what awaits you, I'll tell you in advance that we'll walk together along the aqueduct and through its tunnels, which are accessible in both directions. Step by step, from what we will see, I will tell you the story of this important Roman testimony and its relevance to the local area.

A visit not to be missed also because of the surrounding landscape, we are in fact a step away from the Gran Paradiso National Park: camera or smartphone to be absolutely at hand! 😉!
